No Going Back
03:29
|
|||
I walked out and I sat down in the shade of my favorite tree
The one that never bends, never cracks, defies all the hardest winds
I watched the sun setting slow pouring gold on the mountain tops
I bet the telephone is ringing right now and my answer is my empty house
There ain’t a letter or note on the door
When you closed it behind you you stole my words
And I ain’t going back no more
I hit the lights, engine is on, all my stuff ready in the trunk
Me, my car and my guitar fading into the night
There is no star in the sky, who could tell my direction now?
And you’re out there somewhere just like me
On your face the same western wind
No visions or saints to enlighten the way
Just the blaze from the fire of the bridges behind
There’s no going back this time
Restless we’re born, longing for more
Our home always stays a little farther away

Nobody
03:51
|
|||
Tired of dragging around your old body from town to town
As life is passing you by mile after mile
And the way you swore you’d change it all
It’s only making it worse
The kid with a dream now is a man with a sin
Running away from his soul
Where you go nobody knows
In school she was the prettiest girl, the one you thought she had it all
But what was going in her mind didn’t matter to no one
Too many wrong turns down in a row
Made her feel so lonely and lost
She sits in a bar like an old movie star
Daydreaming of when she was young
What went wrong nobody knows
So my friend
Take a little rest
Lay your head down
Let your mind flows
Let it go where nobody goes

Found
03:23
|
|||
I take comfort in the darkness and the silence of a crowd
Just like on a screen I watch the whole world go round
It’s five o’ clock I’m already gone
Sweep me under the rug
And hide me from the sun
These days are all the same just like drops of rain
They fall on me and slip away leaving not a trace
It’s almost four someone knocks the door
I can’t get off the floor
And wonder “is it worth?”
I’ve been buried for so long into the ground
Baby will you dig deep down
And let me
Let me be found
You say you’ll break my habits, get me on my feet again
I fell I dropped the bottle and picked you up instead
It might be late to lift this weight
And breathe the air again
But will you stay here one more day?
Cause I’ve been buried for so long into the ground
Baby will you dig deep down
And let me
Let me be found

Evelyne
03:17
|
|||
I hate to see little traces of pain
Deep in your weary eyes
A black cloud can hide in the nighttime sky
But it’s out there to see in the day
I saw you fight back, escape and conceal
Both your joys and your fears
Stop clenching your fist you will not lose your grip
My friend I will not let you slip
And all this time it’s been fight fight fight
Throwing stones at the sea
Now it’s time you just flow with the tide and be free
Oh Evelyne
Your story is not in the words that you read
But in pages you write
Put back on the shelf Wuthering Heights and the rest
You’re ready to trace your own path
So you set your foot on the wire again
Trying to balance yourself
You’ve risked it all out, god you made me so proud
I’m smiling at you from the other end
This whole life it’s a ride ride ride
But you got all that you need
You will find you got nothing to hide, just be
Evelyne
And after all this time
Who could have said
that you would be by my side

Run Alone
02:36
|
|||
I can hear a lonesome whisper a thousand miles away
But I can’t see the love around me even if I try
So I’m not blaming you girl, I’m tired of me myself
I’d walk away from me with you if I only could
So find your way out in the world
I wish you the best of luck
You’ll see me passing by
As I run alone
There’s something in your head boy I really cannot tell
Your voice is harsh, your eyes are dark, why can’t you be like us?
Ever since I was a young kid
That’s what they said to me
It seems like I was born
To run alone
Yes it feels like I was born
To run alone

Late Night Train
02:55
|
|||
I looked at my hometown through the window pane
I watched it fade away as the sun was going down
I felt I broke my chains as I left on a late night train
You sat in front of me, nothing had been planned
But we knew how it will end, we just had to let it be
It was you my sweet Elaine who got me off the late night train
Now sometimes when I’m lying in your arms
I can hear that whistle blowing out there
In the dark
I can’t derail for long, those tracks call me back
It’s time for me to pack and keep on rambling on
There’s a fire in my veins and it runs like a late night train

You Think You Do
04:07
|
|||
Staring at each other across that dinner table
Having a few too many I didn't even think about it
But through all these people talking, your eyes carry a message so clear
It seems like you want to know me, do you know what you're asking for?
Cause you think you do but you really don't
Against your youth and beauty I got no cards to play
All I got is a few more scars but does that make me wise?
I told you it couldn't work, sometimes I felt like a thief in your arms
But you just say :"Baby it's ok I know where we're going to"
Yes you think you do but you really don't
I know it looks so clear now but hues will come into play
You still ain't seen much of this world
and I know I've seen enough
So trust me if you can, cause this is for the best
You cut a tree with less regret before it has given all its fruits
Many years from now this song will ride the wind
It'll tell a story we once knew and say how much I care for you
Cause you think you know but you really don't
Yes you think you do but you really don't

One Way Street
02:33
|
|||
You’re a one way street
Once on your track
I got to drive at full speed
And never look back
There’s no shades of grey
Just decisions to be made
I wonder if I’m that good
If I got what it takes
I drove all night
Trying to figure things out
I stopped my car
Right in front of your house
The dawn hit my eyes
The wind blew on this beach road
And I thought of my kids and my wife
The way you walked to me did the rest
My mind was made up before you reached the front seat
Sure I will never forget
The day I walked into my one way street

Do What You Can
02:53
|
|||
I’ve been wandering round and round in my mind
Trying to find a place to stop and unwind
The woman at the corner smoking cigarettes
She says : “Darling you can’t find what it’s never been there”
I waited all my life for some wisdom from above
But it feels like I’m stuck with the madness below
The preacher say “You can still be saved, make amends for your wrongs”
And I say : “that’ll take way too much time and I won’t be here long”
Why don’t you do what you can with what you got
Can’t turn a stray cat into a shepherd dog
Mr. Politican at the top of the stair
Pouring down his laws as the ten commandments
He says : “if you work real hard one day you’ll be like me”
And I say : “Then I better call my boss and tell him I quit”
Girl you try to impress the world with your affected charms
I got to say that I’ll have a use of those long legs you got
She says . “I night at the Ritz, a diamond ring, be faithful to me”
And I say : “Baby if I was rich I’d give you two of these things”
Why don’t you do what you can with what you got
Can’t turn an old wreck into a Cadillac
Do what you can with what you got
Can’t turn a stray cat into a shepherd dog
Do what you can with what you got

Where The Band Plays
03:05
|
|||
It’s a funny game that memories play
Trying to turn to gold your mistakes
Still there’s something about you that won’t fade away
It lingers in the air each times it rains
Sweet summer evenings
Lost in your eyes
God it seemed so easy
To fly that high
Music filled the darkness
As we laid down in the grass
And we made love as the band played
I had to be damn sure not miss a chance
I had to leave this world with no regrets
Just look at me know
After all I’ve done
I’ve lost the only place
Where I belong
All these night when whisky
Is the only friend I got
I’m glad there are things about me
You’ll never know
So don’t you worry about me
If you think of me someday
You will still find me
Where the band plays
Yes you will still find me
Where the band plays

A Dream and a Girl
03:35
|
|||
She got into town no one knew when or how
Raised some money for a ticket and many frowns
Her high heels echoed through the streets around the port
Beating to the rhythm of the big city
And I would just watch her as she sat by the docks
while the street lights made her hair shine like gold
And I wondered where she belonged
It took a few days and the word got around
They all seemed to know what the girl was about
At every corner you heard it over and again
She was on everybody’s mouth and no one even knew her name
And I would just pass her as she stood by the door
While her eyes travelled far beyond us all
Heading out to where she belonged
Just a dream way too big
for a small town kid
Desire in the wrong place
Like fire in the sea
Just not meant to be
Yet burning like the devil deep within
She was gone just like she’d come
Not a warning or a sign like a storm in the springtime
Some people wondered if she was ever here at all
Someone thought that he saw her on a night bus heading north
And I can see those tail lights fading in the dark
Like fairies inviting me to run real far
Heading out to where she belongs
Now I sit by the docks where she used to have a smoke
And I think of a dream and a girl
Who left me wondering where I belong
